Education and Certifications :: BS - Civil & Environmental Engineering; UMass Lowell

ACE-CPT, RYT-200, Assisted Stretching, TRX Suspension Training, Kettlebells, CPR/AED

Areas Of Expertise :: Strength - from body weight to heavy lifting, mind-body awareness, breath work, postural correction, functional movement

Training Philosophy :: I firmly believe that a large part of feeling good comes from the ability to move properly. Our bodies ache when muscles become over or under-active from misuse, and our joints stiffen and creak.
I'm on my own journey of leaving my sedentary lifestyle behind, and I want to show you the ways I've learned to feel happy and fit. The eagerness to learn has never left me, and every client I work with teaches me more as we solve each individual challenge. I believe strength training and mobility work are inextricably linked, and a balance of the two leads to well functioning and joyful bodies and minds! I left a career in engineering for the opportunity to help others feel better in their daily lives.
Ultimately, I want to teach you to listen to and love your own body, and for you to learn to work out independently so it becomes a true part of your lifestyle. Let's find your goal and get you there, one step at a time.

Personal Accomplishments :: I was sedentary my whole life, and even more so after spinal fusion surgery. Slowly, over years, I began to understand how much better movement made me feel. Now instead of being overweight and in chronic pain, I can lift heavy weights, move my body into difficult and beautiful positions, and most importantly, feel wonderful. I may not have any marathons under my belt, but my life is fundamentally altered!

Education/Certifications:
NASM CPT, Pre/Post Natal, Assisted Stretching, CPR Certified

_
Areas of expertise:
Stability, balance, flexibility and posture; core strength; cyclists; working with beginners to build a solid fitness foundation; full body circuit training; muscular endurance and conditioning; the mental and emotional benefits of training.

_
Training Philosophy:
I specialize in working with you to develop training programs that improve flexibility, mobility, strength and endurance using a progressive, holistic approach. Just as you, your body, and your journey is continually evolving, so will your training. Everyone has their own starting point, and “fitness” means something different to each of us. In our work together we will define what it means to you – inside and outside of the gym – and challenge you to meet those goals.
Oh, and we’ll also have fun!

_
Personal Accomplishments:
My passion for fitness started in high school. I have participated in various athletic pursuits throughout my life, ranging from swimming to dressage to cycling, but hitting the gym for a good workout has always been my favorite by far. My own fitness journey has gone through several peaks and valleys, and I am intimately familiar with what it’s like to start from what feels like the beginning. I believe the mental, emotional and the physical are inextricably intertwined on the path the health and strength. It is this passion that lead me to switch careers after over a decade in the cycling industry to train full-time.

Shannon Wheel Personal Trainer at Healthworks Fitness

SHANNON W

Personal Trainer

Shannon Wheel
Level 1 Trainer and RD
B.A. Psychology, Ithaca College
Certificate in Nutrition and Dietetics, Simmons College
Registered Dietitian, NASM-CPT, CPR/AED, Functional Movement Screen (FMS)

Strength and Conditioning, Circuit Training, Functional Strength, Kettlebells, teamTRAINING, Weight Loss, Nutrition

Starting a new fitness routine is intimidating, but a positive training experience can be the key to helping you reach your goals. I work with my clients at their current level, while gently pushing them to discover how much more they are capable of doing. I excel at helping women of all ages and ability levels build strength on a foundation of healthy movement patterns, and to feel more confident and empowered both inside and outside of the gym. Through this partnership, you will discover how strong you truly are.

“Shannon is the smartest, most dedicated and personable trainer I've ever known or worked with - and I've worked with many. The way she tailored my workouts to take my back problems into consideration and could change an exercise plan on a dime depending on how I was feeling, is not something many trainers can or are willing to do. She was always sensitive to my limits and preferences, while also pushing me to advance and get stronger.” -E.Newton

“I enjoyed working with Shannon. I started personal training with her too because of an injury. The physical therapist stopped my sessions, but I was still in pain. Shannon was a magician. It was evident from the exercises and tips she offered that she listened to me. Within a few sessions, I could see a large improvement in my quality of life. Instead of the pain dictating my routine, I was able to manage the pain during my typical day.” S.R.

“Shannon has the unique ability to understand how you're doing both physically and mentally and hone in on a combination of exercises that will get you where you want to go. I trained with Shannon for a month while I was recovering from an injury, crazy stressed at work, woefully out of shape, and also getting ready for a big hiking trip. She was kind, encouraging; she helped me train both hard and smart. I am stronger, more flexible, I recovered from my injury, even (a bit) less stressed.” R.U.

Sarah Moore Personal Trainer at Healthworks Fitness

SARAH M

Personal Trainer

_
Education/Certifications:
BS – Early Childhood Education; Plymouth State University
ACE-CPT, CPR/AED
_
Areas of expertise:
It is becoming increasingly difficult for people to adopt a healthy and balanced way of living. That’s where I come in! Health and fitness is a lifestyle and ongoing journey. Through training, not only will you be improving your body but also your mental strength. As you become stronger, your self confidence will improve. You will begin to advance in your training, nutrition, and habits and keep that momentum of progress through fat loss, strength gains and an overall increase in fitness. It is important to understand that results don’t happen overnight, but they will come with hard work, dedication and consistency. Being patient through this process should be your number one focus. Embrace change and enjoy the process of watching your health and body transform.

_
Training Philosophy:
Becoming a trainer came out of my own love of being active and healthy. Changing people’s lives through health and wellness is what I strive for. You don’t have to aspire to be an athlete to train with me. I will take your own individual situation and harmonize your training to match your lifestyle and goals. I will support you through every step of your fitness journey as your accomplishments are my accomplishments. In my opinion, fitness training is a lot like a vegetable garden; things need their own unique season and set of conditions to provide the right elements for them to grow and prosper. Growth happens at our limits, wherever they may lie. It is how much we can become comfortable with being uncomfortable that will determine just how much you can grow!

_
Personal Accomplishments:
Boston Marathon, 2014; (6) Half Marathons, Running Relays, Triathlon – I also enjoy walking with my pup, hiking in NH and trying new foods!

We all need strong hearts and bodies to enjoy living out our goals in health and happiness. Looking into the future, imagine a life full of activity, freedom of movement, and well being. These goals (and more) are absolutely attainable. I have learned that fitness is the great elixir of life at any age. After experiencing the positive changes in my own body, I left my career in top management and became a personal trainer. ACE-CPT, TRX Suspension, NASM Pre/Post Natal, Functional Movement Screen (FMS), CPR/AED
Trainings: Boxing, Special Populations, Exercise & Aging
_
Areas of expertise:
I work with all ages and fitness levels, but specialize in getting and keeping the aging body fit, healthy and balanced. Boxing is also a passion of mine and I love how empowered women feel after throwing their first punch.

_
Training Philosophy:
“Work hard, play hard, laugh hard.” I experienced a mid-life awakening and discovered that it’s never too late to get trim and fit and be my personal best, and that’s true for us all. I prescribe a fun and varied routine based on each client’s personal goals, needs and preferences. My job is to discover what those needs and desires are – even if they seem impossible – and lead them towards those goals with enough push to make their workouts challenging, but still fun. Healthy aging is among the most important goals that everyone should reach for and I work to help my clients achieve that, even if they have injuries, pain and illness to work through.

_
Personal Accomplishments:
I’ve lost 50 pounds and kept it off for over 9 years, having incorporated a healthy lifestyle, including regular exercise, into my daily routine. I ran the Rukus obstacle course race in 2011 and came in first in my age group, which thrilled me. _
Personal Accomplishments:
Going into my 19th year of personal training, I continue to motivate and change people’s lives on a daily basis and to me it is the most rewarding feeling and sense of accomplishment that one can ask for. ELA D

_
Education/Certifications:
Education and Certifications :: BA Theater, Biology from Colgate University
NCCPT, ACE Group Fitness, TRX, RKC and CPR/AED

_
Areas of expertise:
Ela started as a kickboxing instructor in 2009 and she quickly realized she never wanted to stop teaching and learning more about fitness. She passed both Dragon Door’s highly challenging Russian Kettlebell and Progressive Calisthenics certifications and became infatuated with fixing bodies. She uses kettlebells, as well as barbells and bodyweight resistance training to provide vital postural corrections and overall stronger, fitter bodies for all her clients.

_
Training Philosophy:
Fall in love with the journey itself, and the results will come. Also, recognize and celebrate progression (no matter what it is or how small), each and every day.

_
Personal Accomplishments:
After reaching her goal of 10 strict chin-ups, Ela now wants to master the muscle-up! She can also deadlift and hip thrust over 225lbs, as well as bench over 125lbs. She’s completed a half marathon in under 2 hours (her first race ever) and completed over 100 kettlebell snatches in under 5 minutes for her Russian Kettlebell certification (it’s brutal!).

SHANNON W

Corrective Exercise, Core/Pelvic Stability, Olympic Lifting, Metabolic Resistance Training, Strength Training, Kettlebells, TRX

_
Training Philosophy:
I’m passionate about positive change. When you reassess your priorities and realize that your daily habits are no longer working, change is necessary. I know, because I’ve done it. From couch potato to half-marathoner, from obese to strong, and from cubicle-dweller to personal trainer, I’ve employed dedication and no small bit of humor to overcome numerous obstacles. I’d like to help you succeed too. Change can be hard, but it can also be exciting and rewarding and (I hope) a lot of fun! So whether you want to catch a heavy weight over your head, avoid twisted ankles and falls, or easily zip up those skinny jeans, I will support and motivate you to meet your goal. I’ve done the research; you can get the reward.

_
Personal Accomplishments:
Falmouth Half Marathon, 2012; Losing and keeping off 30 pounds!

Level 4 Personal trainers

JAKKI C

_
Areas of expertise:
Full body conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation, and working with clients of all ages including older populations.

_
Training Philosophy:
I don’t have a GENERAL philosophy for training as I believe that everyone’s mind and body are different. When I work with a client the first agenda is to set their goals in place, it is only then that we can establish a training philosophy that meets their needs. I do believe that no matter what fitness level you are starting at, you should never give up. The greatest accomplishment is to keep trying!

_
Personal Accomplishments:
18 half marathons with a PR of 1:45. 1 full marathon at 4 hours flat! Staying uber fit during my pregnancy and still being able to sit back, relax, and enjoy life!
