In honor of Black History Month, we’re bringing you our favorite local Black-owned businesses that can be found near our clubs. Black-owned businesses are disproportionately represented, and the buck doesn’t just stop with the few we’ve listed here. Let’s make supporting Black-owned businesses in Boston and beyond a habit and not just a trend.
For food, snacks, sweets and more:
- Bistro 781 in Waltham offers a seasonally rotating menu with dishes made in-house from scratch with locally sourced ingredients.
- Blue Nile serves up authentic Ethiopian cuisine out of Jamaica Plain.
- Clarke’s Cakes & Cookies offers a variety of vegan desserts and pastries, all baked locally with love by founder and head chef, Karen Clarke.
- Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen on the Roxbury/South End line offers Southern comfort food and some of the best chicken and waffles in Boston, all available for takeout Thursday-Sunday.

- French Press Bakery & Café is a Parisian-style bakery and cafe in Needham, offering baked goods, beverages and food for every meal of the day.
- Jamaica Mi Hungry has food trucks throughout Boston, a restaurant in Jamaica Plain and a second opening soon in Allston!
- Little Crepe Café in Cambridge is a beautiful, Parisian style cafe located right in Cambridge.
- MIDA offers authentic Italian in the South End, with a safe dine-in experience and take out offered.
- Neighborhood Kitchen in Medford just celebrated its 1-year anniversary of serving up Haitian meals for the community, with an Asian flair!
- NÜSSLI118 in Cambridge offers organic handcrafted, plant-based foods and sweets, all gluten and dairy free, with clean ingredients and no refined sugars! Healthworks members save 15% with code HW15.
- Petsi Pies has been a staple in Somerville since 2003. Founder Renee “Petsi” McLeod grew up baking pies and hasn’t stopped since.
- Rhythm ‘n Wraps in Allston delivers good vibes through eclectic, full-flavored, comfort vegan eats. Members save 15% when you mention your Healthworks membership when ordering.
- Ripple Cafe in Dorchester is a beautiful coffee shop and bakery that’s all about good vibes!
- Rock City Pizza in Allston prides themselves on fresh ingredients and a delicious meal every time. For pizza, pasta, sandwiches, and everything in between, they’ve got your takeout needs covered!
- The Coast Cafe has been serving up soul food in Cambridge for 16 years. Support this family-owned business by ordering takeout or delivery!
- Tipping Cow Ice Cream in Somerville offers 100% nut-free, homemade ice cream in dozens of flavors (plus dairy-free). They’re on a break until 2/12, but visit their website for more details on where you can find their ice creams in the meantime!
- Urban Grape is a highly successful, independently Black and Women-owned wine shop in the South End, offering delivery throughout the city.

- Artifact Soapworks in Cambridge offers unique and unusual, artisanal soaps are vegetarian/vegan and cruelty free.
- Beauty N Simplicity sells small batch, natural skincare, 100% handmade with love by Mavis Elmyra Hicks.
- Brown and Coconut sells face masks, oils, polish, cleansers and more. Founded by sisters Letisha and Zeena Brown, all products are 100% plant-based, non-GMO and filled with organically sourced ingredients.

- Frugal Bookstore is a community bookstore located in Roxbury (and online!) with a passion for promoting literacy within children, teens and adults.
- High Tarot Vibrations offers tarot readings, crystals, jewelry and more, founded by Paloma & Tamia to help bring people a sense of clarity, and peace of mind on some of their daily issues (which we could all use right now).
- I Got Ur Black Tees offers tie dye lounge way created by a local teenager (mother is a longtime Healthworks member!) with a portion of all proceeds going to charitable Black organizations, like Black Girls Code and The Innocence Project.
Layo Store sells handmade body butters, hair balm, lip balm, soaps and scalp oils. All products are organic and non-toxic, created by founder Funmi Ola. - Natralee is an incredible line of organic and eco-friendly body butters and body scrubs. Founder Eunice Charles is all about promoting healthy skin and a healthy planet.
- Organic Bath Co. is all about self-care made simple. Founded by Gianne Doherty and husband, their award-winning, clean beauty products span skincare, body butters, soaps, scrubs and more.
